ABOUT THE ARTIST

About the Artist: Julia Solazzo Art

Julia Solazzo strives to understand the essence of natural light through her oil-on-canvas paintings. Born in Newport Beach, California, Julia currently lives and practices in San Diego, California. The aim of her creative work is to evoke a sense of intimacy between the subject and the viewer.

Julia found her love of painting when she was just seven years old. Since then, she has studied, in-depth, the art of landscape painting and portraiture. She began painting portraits in the summer of 2017, after being awarded a research grant from Pepperdine’s Summer Undergraduate Research Program to study the history and methods of painting portraits. For her most recent exhibition, Julia worked collaboratively with her cousin, Cayetano Gonzalez, a natural lighting portrait-photographer.

She draws inspiration from her grandfather, Sebastian Capella, a Spanish Master Painter acclaimed for his impressionistic portraiture and landscape paintings. As a result, Julia is passionate about human connection, which is demonstrated through her attention to capturing the essence of the people she paints in her portraits.

Julia is dedicated to changing the way we perceive light and to deepen our understanding of individuals and nature by revealing the beauty she sees in each painting.
